Blaze Type is an independent type foundry founded in Marseille in 2016 by Matthieu Salvaggio. We build typefaces the way software is built — with obsessive versioning, variable axes, and licensing that doesn't punish you for growing. Our catalog spans 100+ families, designed by a distributed team of 40+ type designers across 15 countries, and used by some of the world's most recognized brands and institutions.

Over the past ten years, our international team of experts works in close collaboration to create stunning and innovative variable and static fonts.

We started Blaze Type because we were tired of choosing between type that looked good in a specimen and type that actually worked in production. Every family we release is tested at display sizes and body copy, in print and on screen, across weights and widths.

Variable technology isn't a selling point for us: it's the baseline. If a typeface can't flex with your project, it doesn't ship.

A simple licensing system

Our licenses are one-time payments. No subscriptions, no annual renewals, no usage audits. You pay once, you own it for your project: print, web, app, broadcast, whatever you're building. The price scales with your company size, not with how many times you use the file.

We update our typefaces every year: adding styles, extending language support, improving spacing, refining details. If you've licensed a family, every future update is yours at no extra cost. The file you bought in 2022 is better today than it was when you paid for it.

Font Production & Mastering

We take unfinished type work and make it production-ready. That means expanding glyph sets, adding language coverage, calibrating spacing and kerning, building variable axes, fixing rendering issues, and preparing files for any delivery format.

If you have a typeface that's 80% done, we can take it the rest of the way: whether we designed it or not.

Every year we take on a limited number of custom font commissions: brand typefaces, proprietary systems, and bespoke lettering. Projects typically run from four to sixteen weeks depending on scope.
