Zeyond Stencil is a display stencil typeface built on a radical modular and geometric approach. Originally developed as a custom single-weight typeface for the contemporary art collective Beyond The Post-Soviet, it was designed as part of the visual identity for their exhibition program at the Maison de la Culture d’Amiens in 2023. Rooted in a brutalist sensibility, the design
takes cues from the architecture of the MCA building. Sharp cuts and orthogonal structures interact with elongated curves, echoing the tension between rigid volumes and fluid surfaces found in the façade. This interplay defines the overall rhythm of the typeface. Initially conceived for signage, Zeyond Stencil expands across multiple widths, from Compressed to Wide.
The stencil construction fragments counters and breaks continuity, turning structural constraints into graphic features. Diacritics are treated as independent shapes, reinforcing the modular logic of the system. Rather than relying on traditional contrast, the typeface operates through the balance of mass and void. At display sizes, forms become increasingly expressive, oscillating
between legibility and abstraction. Zeyond Stencil functions as both a typographic tool
and a spatial system, translating architectural language into a bold and constructed typographic voice.
