Amilias did so, and, lo! he fell in two halves; for the sword had cut sheer through the vaunted war-coat, and cleft in twain the great body incased within.

The master, Mimer, sheathed his sword, and walked slowly down the hillside to the plain.

I see you, I know you're here. Behind every tree. Behind every stone. Your love shields me.

Be kind — so they said. As we are but shooting stars in the wind. A breath of life, a whisper in the mist. O for so long have I wanted for this.

There will be text & There will be words. But there won't be any sound. Only the ones you wish for: those you hear in your heart. Those you feel in your soul.

The rain dries. The tree grows. Deep roots — in the marsh. I hide in plain sight the secret knowledge to our heart. For you to be a witness to me up until the end.

Long & Dark days are ahead. Fear not. We are together, hands in hands, until the end of the world. The walls may crack and the roofs may tear away. We are here to stay.

I see you. There is still your smell in the house. I hear you calling me "my son" after a long trip in the woods. I remember every moment. Would you be proud now? Would you turn your face away?

Information

Medieval is a free interpretation of Fritz Helmuth Ehmcke's Mediaeval (Stempel, 1922). The challenge was to remain faithful to the original and its distinctive character — versatile serifs, strikingly tall ascenders, and a pronounced translation contrast — while distilling these qualities into something cleaner and more controlled. The solution lies in 45° serif segments and carefully placed ink traps, lending the design a quiet geometric precision without sacrificing its historical soul.

Certain characters have been deliberately softened: the o embraces expansion contrast, the g settles into a more classical posture, and overall contrast is kept intentionally restrained for sustained readability. The result is a transitional typeface with a deep historical sensibility — structurally disciplined, yet warm enough to carry text at body sizes.

Its tall ascenders and architectural rhythm make it a natural fit for display work: logotypes, editorial headlines, poster typography, book covers, cultural institution identity, and drop caps. At smaller sizes Medieval remains serviceable, though it truly comes alive when given room to breathe.
