Big Druto
Details
While Druto reflects on density in text, Big Druto pushes things further, as to become a study of density in larger sizes. It addresses white space in large titles as an issue. Big Druto has a bigger still x-height than Druto, which allows for minimal leading. It has squarish shapes, with less humanistic swing, that give an impression of fullness in text. Its diacritics are attached. It is overall made to look strong in large sizes, with low contrast and barely any descenders, while still remaining legible in smaller sizes.
Big Druto Display is for even larger sizes, with still less white spaces remaining. So much so, that it is designed with negative tracking. Each glyph is designed, each terminal and each bowl is cut on the nose to create a uniform pattern of gaps and overlap. An elegant and systematic use of negative tracking, which cannot be achieved with tracking with an off-the-shelf font. Big Druto Display, although being of very low contrast, also brings contrast back. Negatives spaces become thin lines and start playing the role of high contrast, giving a subtle display quality.
